  Irene Van Dyk
Irene Van Dyk, (21 June 1972 -), is one of the world's best-known netball players.
Born in South Africa, she grew up in (?) and played in their international team, with her goal-shooting talents (combining athleticism, 190 centimetres of height, and a strike rate of almost 90%) almost single-handedly making them competitive against world powers Australia and New Zealand.
Her husband Christe van Dyk analyses her play and can tell if the ball would go in or not.

Irene van Dyk, the former South African who is acknowledged as the world’s premier shooter, was the star for the Kiwis, scoring most of her team’s points with a shooting percentage of better than 90 per cent.
Van Dyk’s effectiveness in the circle was aided by the Silver Ferns’ ability to get the ball to her via both the long bomb and the short pass.
Van Dyk converted 12 of 13 goal attempts and Belinda Colling two from two in the first period while Neele had six from nine and Sharelle McMahon four from five for Australia.

Irene is the former captain of the South African Netball team and after a visit to Wellington with her husband, they chose to make New Zealand their home in 2000.
Irene was on the podium with the successful Silver Ferns squad receiving their Gold medals at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games (a wonderful moment having settled for Silver at Manchester against archrivals Australia) proving that they are indeed worthy of their World Champion title.
Irene was named Sportswoman of the Year in the 2004 Halberg Awards and voted People’s Choice for sportswoman of the Year in 2005.

A humble Van Dyk felt the award was an acceptance by the New Zealand public that she now belonged here and it meant a great deal to her.

After emigrating to New Zealand early last year Van Dyk will not meet the three-year residency criteria before the Manchester Games and will need a clearance from her former country to play for the Silver Ferns there.
Right from the beginning Van Dyk said her move to New Zealand with husband Christie and daughter Bianca had been for lifestyle reasons and netball was very much a secondary concern.
Van Dyk earlier described the tactic as "dirty" but the outcome was out of her hands.
