  Irina Privalova
Irina Privalova made a spectacular start to competition in 1993.
Outdoors, Privalova undertook a gruelling schedule at the 1993 World Championships, competing in four events, the 100m, 200m, and both relays.
In the 4 x 400m relay, Privalova again ran the anchor leg for the Russian team, which won the silver medal behind the USA, with Privalova recording the fastest leg of any runner with her time of 48.47sec.

Feature - New Achilles helps Privalova to gold - ABC Coverage of the Sydney Olympic Games
Irina Privalova of Russia finally struck Olympic gold last night when she won the women's 400 metres hurdles final in only her eighth outing in the event.
Privalova, whose career has been blighted by constant injuries to her Achilles tendons, underwent the surgery last year with a tissue graft using the strong, undamaged tendon of a dead Russian soldier to replace her own, scarred tendons.
It was an extraordinary turnaround for Privalova, the former speed skater, who won Olympic 100m bronze in 1992 and a silver in the sprint relay in Barcelona.

 Irina Privalova
Privalova won a 60m event in 7.02sec at Ghent on 12 February, and then set the season's fastest time over 200m of 22.52sec at Lievin on 16 February.
In the final at Paris, Privalova got an early lead and was seemingly heading for victory, but she suddenly pulled up with a torn hamstring, which caused her to miss the remainder of 1997, and she did not return to competition until the 1998 indoor season.
Despite these successes, Privalova's season finished somewhat disappointingly in the World Cup at Johannesburg, where she had three fifth-place finishes, in the 100m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay.

CNNSI.com - Olympic Sports - Novice hurdler Privalova dismisses her golden chance at 'mankilling' - September 11, 2000 ...
In her first season at a race so gruelling that it is often referred to as "the man-killer", Privalova has managed to win the Russian championship and then run the third fastest time of the year in only her fourth ever outing in the event.
Privalova's 54.06sec best, set when winning at the Monaco Golden League meeting, places her behind the American, Sandra Glover (53.33) and Morocco's former world champion, Nezha Bidouane (53.53), with last year's world title-winner, Daimi Pernia, of Cuba, having clocked 54.14.
But most observers believe that Privalova has a lot more to come: a former world indoor champion at 400m, she is the first sub-50sec woman one-lap runner ever to take on the hurdles seriously.

Privalova, who crossed the real finish line at 11.08, holds the European record of 10.77, a score she earned at a Lausanne meet in 1994.

Merlene Ottey and Irina Privalova was the absolute top names in the womens sprinting events as they divided gold and silver over the distances 60 and 200 metres with Privaloa winning the gold medal in the most prestigeous 60 metre event.
Merlene Ottey and Irina Privalova avoided going up against each other at these championships.
So Ottey won the gold medal over 60 metres rather easy, while Privalova concentrated on winning the gold over 400 metres – leaving the quest for the 200 metre gold to a competition between some of the smaller names in womens sprinting.
