Okinawa, the southernmost prefecture of Japan, consists of 57 islands which include the Miyako and Yaeyama groups, with the main island of Okinawa as the nucleus.
The paths on the island are covered with white sand and lined with peaceful rows of houses accentuated with Sisar gurden lion statues on orange tile roofs and the walls of coral limestone twined with subtropical flowers.

 Festivals and Events of Iriomote Island
This is a typical traditional festival in Iriomote, being grandly held at Sonai and Hoshitate Villages.
I observed the Painushima festival in 1997, it was very enjoyable because there were performing arts such as eisaa (a traditional dance in Okinawa), some entertainment by local talents and some attraction such as competitions of beer drinking and pineapple holding.
Although I had visited Iriomote many times, it was the first time to see the traffic jam.
