	Tennessee State Song When It's Iris Time In Tennessee Willa Mae Waid
		In 1919, long before this song was adopted as an official state song of Tennessee, the children of the state had voted the Passion Flower, or Maypop, into history as Tennessee's official state flower.
		With the adoption of the Iris as an official state flower in 1933, it seems appropriate that the song, "When It's Iris Time in Tennessee", was adopted as another state song in 1935.
		This song was adopted by the 69th General Assembly in Chapter 154 of the Public Acts.

		The five-minute song denounces religious and political hypocrisy and corruption, government and corporate attacks on workers' wages, the great and growing gap between rich and poor, and the imprisonment of tens of thousands of unemployed and poverty-stricken American youth.
		Evidence of this, and a growing understanding amongst sections of the population that something is fundamentally wrong with society, is shown in a series of e-mail exchanges about the song on a Iris DeMent discussion group in early February.

		The song has a blues flavor, though very different from the style of Hendrix or the following John Lee Hooker song, "Mama, You Got a Daughter." While all three songs have a basis in blues, the style and pace of all three are very different, as well as the music that supports them.
