Iris scan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An iris scan is one of the most currently used methods of biometric authentication.
An iris scan can be performed from several inches to several feet away, so there is no need to undergo invasive biometric procedures.
While iris scans are said to be more accurate than most genetic fingerprinting, the golden standard of dermatoglyphic fingerprinting, established in the early 1820s by the Czech physiologist Jan Evangelista Purkyně has yet to be matched.

Iris Recognition and Biometric Authentication   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-07)
Like a snowflake, the iris - the externally visible colored ring around the pupil - of every human eye is absolutely unique, exhibiting a distinctive pattern that forms randomly in utero in a process called chaotic morphogenesis.
Iris recognition is the only biometric authentication technology designed to work in the 1-n or exhaustive search mode.
Iris recognition involves nothing more than taking a digital picture of the iris (from moving video), and recreating an encrypted digital template of that pattern.

It takes about 15 seconds for the iris to be photographed and about nine seconds to search the database for a match.

If you are photographer and have film you want to print as Iris prints or if you are a painter and have high quality film of the original (if you don't think your film is high quality enough, see Digital Capture), we drum scan the film to create a digital file for Iris printing.
If you are not interested in making Iris prints but want to have the better quality scanned files for your own desktop printers, we can also scan your film for that purpose at a lower price.
For printing on consumer level printers, the scanned files don't have to be as large as the ones for Iris printing since the size of output will be smaller.

Iris-scan technology: iris recognition focuses on imperfections in the color and texture of the individual human iris.
Facial-scan technology: emphasizes those sections of the face that are less susceptible to alteration, including the upper outlines of the eye sockets, the areas surrounding the cheekbones, and the sides of the mouth.
One-to-many comparison capabilities make the technology superior to other technologies; hand-recognition, for example, which is excellent to compare with the stored image of the individual, is ineffective to identify the person from a database of stored images.
