The Irish Chamber Orchestra, or ICO, is a small string orchestra based in the (additional info and facts about University of) University of (Port city in southwestern Ireland) Limerick.
The ICO has toured worldwide, including a recent visit to (additional info and facts about Carnegie Hall) Carnegie Hall in (A Mid-Atlantic state; one of the original 13 colonies) New York and a tour through (A communist nation that covers a vast territory in eastern Asia; the most populous country in the world) China.
As a business, the Orchestra is led by Chief Executive John Kelly, who occasionally plays the viola in ICO concerts.

 Music in the West: the success story of the Irish Chamber Orchestra
As befits an Irish ensemble of such elegance and proficiency, the ICO has both commissioned, performed and recorded compositions by contemporary Irish composers such as Gerald Victory, Seoirse Bodley, John Kinsella and Michéal Ó Súilleabháin, with the last of whom the orchestra has a long-standing creative relationship.
This was the dramatic decision to re-locate the orchestra to the University of Limerick.
The latest initiative that the ICO has been involved with is the plan for a College of the Performing Arts to be set up in association with the University of Limerick, the brain-child of Dr Michéal Ó Súllibháin, Professor of Music at the University of Limerick.

 Irish Museum of Modern Art: Irish Chamber Orchestra returns to IMMA
The many fans of the Irish Chamber Orchestra and of the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s Sunday afternoon concert series will be delighted to learn that the ICO is returning to IMMA for a series of four concerts starting on Sunday 24 February.

The Irish Chamber Orchestra on their inaugural concert tour provided a prestigious laurel to O'Reilly Hall as Dublin's newest concert venue.
Having heard Suzanne Murphy sing the Derry Air with the RTE Concert Orchestra at the official opening of the hall in Novem-ber, it was interesting to hear the rich low-key string development of the melody in an arrangement by Frank Bridge.
This was a wonderful evening of music-making by a distinguished Chamber Orchestra, pointing the way to many such occasions, enriching the cultural life both of the College and of the wider community.

This interest was fostered by her parents, who were keen that their children should acquire their love of Irish music, and encouraged them to play in seisiun (sessions) and to take part in Fleadhanna (Irish music festivals) the length and breadth of the country.
However, through all this experimentation, traditional Irish music has remained closest to her heart, and she spent the last two years recording a trad album which subtly incorporates some of the international influences to which she has been exposed over the years.
The concerto for two violins and chamber orchestra was written with Zoë in mind, and it combines both the classical and traditional styles.
