We also succeeded in persuading the Minister for Finance to reduce the rate of VAT on live greyhounds from 21% to 4.3% and to reduce the rate of VAT on concrete blocks etc. from 21% to 12.5%.

The Minister for Enterprise and Employment, announced on February 25 1997 that the 48 hour maximum working week provision of the Directive, would be phased in over a three year period.
Employees can therefore work an average of 60 hours per week in the first year after enactment of the legislation, reducing to 55 hours in the second year and 48 hours in the third year.
