		Richard Fitzgerald said that Ireland's white sugar quota was 200200 tonnes (182000 tonnes of A quota and 18200 of B quota.) The total area under beet is 33,500 hectares grown by 5,000 growers with an average of 6.4 hectares per grower.
		In 1933 the Irish Sugar Company Ltd, was established and acquired the Carlow factory and built factories at Mallow, Thurles and Tuam.
