However within Northern Ireland, print media which are aligned to either community (the Belfast Newsletter is aligned to the unionist community while the Irish News is aligned to the nationalist community) generally use their community's preferred term.

In a deteriorating situation the local Northern Ireland Parliament and Government were prorogued in 1972 and the British Government assumed direct responsibility for all aspects of the government of Northern Ireland.

She was a lecturer at Richmond, the American International University in London from 1997 to 2001, and was an Honorary Research Associate in Anthropology at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia in spring 2001.

The European Commission has authorised public funding for the Northern Irish Language Broadcast Fund in the United Kingdom under EC Treaty state aid rules, it was announced today.
The Commission said today that it considers that since the aid aims to promote cultural products and the Irish Language, it can be authorised under EC Treaty rules that allow state aids for the promotion of culture.
The newly established Fund’s objective is to promote, develop and support the Irish language in Northern Ireland through the production and broadcasting of television and film output.
