	Coins of the Irish Republic 1938-1969
		After 1942, the silver content of the half crown, shilling and floirin, previously 75% with 25% copper, was eliminated, the first of the new cupro-nickel alloy (75% copper and 25% nickel) coins were issued in 1951.
		In 1959 the alloy of the bronze coins, penny, halfpenny, and farthing, was changed slightly from 95.5% copper, 3% tin and 1.5% zinc to 97% copper, 0.5% tin and 2.5% zinc.
		In 1966, a silver commemorative ten shilling coin was issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the Easter Week Rising in 1916.

		The coin featured the bull and the original minting of the coin from 1928 until 1942 contained 75% silver, this Irish coin had a higher content than the equivalent British coin.
		The silver coins are quite noticeable as they have a more "whitish" look than the later cupronickel variety that were minted from 1951, also the silver coins wear less well.
		When the currency was decimalised this coin continued to circulate alongside its replacement five pence, and the shilling was finally withdrawn from January 1, 1993 as a smaller five pence coin was introduced.

	Irish ten shilling coin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The coin featured Cúchulainn, the mythical Irish hero, the coin was produced for the 50th anniversary of the Easter Rising and commenced circulation on April 12 1966 and was designed by T Hugh Paget.
		The coin did not prove popular and 1,270,000 of the 2 million produced were withdrawn and melted down, this unpopularilty maybe due to the ten shilling Series A Banknote which was in circulation, twenty thousand coins were issued as proofs in issue cases.
		The ten shilling is the only Irish coin to feature an inscription on edge until the Irish euro coins, this is "Éirí Amach na Cásca 1916", which can be translated as "1916 Easter Rising"; the inscription was in Gaelic script on a smooth edge.

	The Anglo-Irish Coinage of Elizabeth I
		Shillings and groats were the denominations ordered, and the mint mark was a rose, which mark had been used since 1556 on the base harp groats of Philip and Mary.
		The coins were tested at the pyx trial of 24th October 1561, when £9.0s.12d in harp shillings and groats were found acceptable at the prescribed 11oz fine.
		The shilling of this third base issue was much lighter and smaller than this same denomination of the first issue struck at the beginning of the reign.

	British Copper Coinage: Introduction
		In 1691 the warrant to mint the tin coins was renewed by James Hoare in partnership with Andrew Corbett and Thomas Povey.
		Among the coins found in Philadelphia in 1975 during the construction of Interstate 95 were two 1694 William and Mary copper halfpence, two William III 1700 halfpence and an early 1681 Charles II copper Irish halfpenny.
		The selection displays how these coins would have look during the 1780's and are especially interesting for comparison with the section on imported British counterfeits and with the sections on American made counterfeit halfpence including the Machin's Mills halfpence, the few unattributed counterfeits, and the related Blacksmith coppers.

	Irish Coin Sets Available - Including 2000

		In 1965 a five shilling coin also called a crown was issued on the death of Winston Churchill.
		This was also a 7 sided coin and was introduced to bridge the gap between the ten and fifty pence coin making it easier for merchants to give change.
		Finally in 1997 the fifty pence coin was reduced in size from 30 mm to 27 mm or roughly the size of a half dollar the size of a sacagawea dollar.
