 Middle Earth: The Wizards
If you are new to the whole collectible card game idea, the book Middle Earth: The Wizards Companion™ would be a good buy and a good read as it better explains things.
The standard rulebook includes starter, standard and even solitaire rules, but they are better explained in the Middle Earth: The Wizards Companion.
One thing that I really enjoyed about the game is the feeling at the end that you participated in the J.R.R. Tolkien world of Middle Earth books.

 Middle Earth Role Playing Review
Middle Earth Role Playing attempts just that, and if it's not entirely successful, blame it on the difficulty of duplicating the charm of the novels in a set of role-playing rules.
As each focuses on a specific aspect of the Middle Earth mythos, they're closer in spirit to the source material than the game itself and are recommended to Tolkien fans as well as gamers.
MERP is more likely to find favor with casual Tolkien fans than Middle Earth fanatics, because even though it's a pretty good fantasy game, it doesn't measure up to the novels.

In looking back at both versions of the Iron Crown, the hero version is worth more points on average, and is used more often for its cancelling ability and for DI in controlling characters.
The minion Iron Crown lends itself more to influencing than the hero version, and can be offensively used to help influence away your opponent's factions, items or characters.
It also prevents the usage of Fury of the Iron Crown, although it can be immediately brought out after the play of Fury of the Iron Crown if you don't already have it out.

 Middle Earth: The Wizards
I doubt there is any fantasy background anywhere near as rich, deep and believable as Middle Earth and it remains the only fantasy book where I have been able to read 'silly' names without problems.
Each turn sees your groups of characters moving around Middle Earth, fighting, resting, recruiting, dying and experiencing the usual peaks and troughs of the fantasy novel.
Since the earliest days of collectable card games we have been promised a Middle Earth game, but having seen the dross emanating from all parts of the globe my initial enthusiasm for the project turned slowly to trepidation.

Home of the Underdogs - Gamebook Collection: Middle-Earth Quest
Iron Crown Enterprises (I.C.E.) got a license from the Tolkien estate to produce role-playing games based on the Middle-earth property.
First in the Middle-Earth Quest series, this thick book features a much longer plot (200+ pages, close to 500 paragraphs) and more detailed characterization than later books in the series.
Second in the Middle-Earth Quest series, Treason at Helm's Deep is slightly shorter than the first book, but no less well-written.
