Prince George of the United Kingdom, Duke of Kent (George Edward Alexander Edmund) (20 December 1902 - 25 August 1942) was the fourth son of King George V of the United Kingdom and Queen Mary.
The Duke also was known to have attempted to court the late Queen Juliana of the Netherlands (mother of the current Queen Beatrix).
In addition to his legitimate children, the Duke is said to have had a son by Kiki Preston (née Alice Gwynne) (1898-1946), an American socialite whom he reportedly shared in a ménage à trois with Jorge Ferrara, the bisexual son of the Argentine ambassador to the Court of St. James's.

Wellington had become known as the 'Iron Duke' by his men, but even the Iron Duke wept when he learned of the numbers of men slaughtered that day.

 BBC - History - Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington (1769 - 1852)
The Duke of Wellington, while a famous soldier and statesmen, was not much of a student.
In 1809 he assumed control of the British, Portuguese and Spanish forces in the Peninsular War and eventually, with his drunken troops he thought were the 'scum of the earth', saw the French out of Spain.
It also earned him the name 'The Iron Duke' for the iron shutters his London home was secured with after rioters smashed them in response to his denial of parliamentary reform in 1830.

Comment: Richard Holmes's "Wellington - The Iron Duke" is a well-written survey of the active life of the First Duke of Wellington.
Serious students of the Duke and of the Napoleonic Wars will find no new scholarship here; indeed, Holmes readily acknowledges his debt to earlier works such as Elizabeth Longford's exceptional biography and Jac Weller's battlefield narrative trilogy.
Holmes has provided an accessible biography for the general reader, supported by well-chosen quotes from the Duke' contemporaries and by a nice selection of illustrations.
