		Iron Maiden's mascot, Eddie, is a perennial fixture in the band's horror-influenced album cover art, as well as in live shows.
		At Iron Maiden's last Ozzfest performance (August 20th 2005 at the Hyundai Pavilion at Glen Helen in San Bernardino, CA), the band's sound was turned off several times, eggs were thrown towards the stage, and chants of "Ozzy" were shouted through the PA system.
		Iron Maiden is referenced prominently in the lyrics to the 2000 hit "Teenage Dirtbag" by American punk-pop group Wheatus.

		IRON MAIDEN was getting really fed up with the American bigots who'd condemned them devil worshippers and such, so they decided to stick this sucker on the new album (PIECE OF MIND).
		She and the British government had a dispute with IRON MAIDEN back in 1980/1981 with the "Sanctuary" and "Women In Uniform" singles, depicting her as dead on the ground (killed by Eddie, of course) and hiding behind a wall observing Eddie picking up chicks, respectively.
		It was produced by IRON MAIDEN and Doug Hall, and released in November of 1981.

		While Bruce Dickinson is THE voice of Iron Maiden, I think Paul DiAnno's contribution during the early Maiden years is too often overlooked.
		Granted, they did have a 3 song demo EP by the name of "The Soundhouse Tapes," but both "Prowler" and "Iron Maiden" from that lp made their way on to this one.
		Compare the range DiAnno hits in my favorite Maiden song of all, "Remember, Tomorrow," not to mention the range the band hits in every aspect- the mood, the atmosphere, the tempo, the most meaningful, purposeful use of fiery guitar work, unlike latter Dickonson era guitar whose speed and power often seemed there out of obligation.

		Iron Maiden is clearly one of the most recognizable and successful groups to emerge from the NWOBHM scene that came into being in the late seventies, as well as one of the most influential metal bands of all time, with an infinite number of 80's (and later) bands owing to their style.
		The band's early years is where the best Maiden albums come from, with most feeling that either Killers, Number Of The Beast, or Piece Of Mind are the band's best (personal vote: Killers).
		If there's a criticism to be made, it would be that their later years have been spent stagnating musically (particularly around the time that Blaze Bayley was at the mic, though the stagnation was hardly his fault), resulting in a dip in popularity in the late nineties.
