Iron River later lost the county seat to Crystal Falls and eventually lost its economic base after a mining depression in the wake of the Panic of 1893.
The Iron River Bridge is historically significant, and technologically significant as an unaltered, relatively early example of concrete arch bridge construction by the state highway department – one of the first dozed such structures built by MSHD.

The rest of the river is well known for the spring Steelhead run.
The White River is not open in our area for the late season and removal of the Orienta Dam on the Iron River will most likely affect the fall runs there.

The victim was reportedly fishing on the Wisconsin side of the Menominee River near the Sturgeon Falls Dam in Norway Township.
A call was received by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office at noon Saturday, with deputies from the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office dive teams responding to the scene.

We are planning a vacation this September to the Iron River Wisconsin area and was wondering if anyone has any pointers on area attractions, campgrounds, and fishing, also thinking of taking a few days to visit the Apostle Islands.
It's located on Iron Lake and it appears that the recreation is based on the fresh water lake, swimming, fishing, boating.
There is a bar in Iron River called "The Other Place" that serves huge hamburgers with excellent fries and onion rings and nice cold beer.

This village, taking the name of the river, was the first settlement platted on the west side of what later became Iron County.
