  Joe's CDs: Queen Archives
I got into Queen in terms of buying albums the one year I was in college when The Works came out, and I've been buying Queen albums since.
This album was for me both a joy and an irritant at the same time.
Queen's final "studio" album (they seem to have released a gaggle of Greatest Hits type albums since which I didn't pay any attention to) is an interesting disc.

 PROGRESSIVEWORLD.NET: REVIEWS BY DAVIDE GUIDONE
This album contains nine pieces and only one long song, "Killer Of Hope," as opposed to their previous one, Hundred Year Flood, where there were only three tracks.
I believe that the best side of the album is the work by Wayne Gardner: high guitar riffs and bass phrases are very good and give that metal sound that can be reputed as the innovative point of the album.
This is the album that you can love and hate because of the same reasons.

Atif Aslam Jal Pari Music Album - Desiest.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Thereafter, when news surfaced that each of the two had started work on full-fledged albums of their own, one was even interested to see what they would come up with after all the petulance.
The album "Jal Pari," much as the name suggests and indeed as the bitter liner notes confirm, is an album haunted by the ghost of Jal.
As mentioned earlier, the album is certainly a rush job, possibly an effort to regain the momentum the band lost with failing to consolidate on the success of "Aadat." All of this might have made commercial sense but the songs do suffer.

There is one song that breaks the typical flow of the album.
The album finally did have some "oomph," but it was on the 13th track.
Most songs focus on the past or reflect on decisions made, which makes the album a pretty good listen for anyone driving home from a late night at a friend's place.

The lyrical subject matter is also rather unique and interesting, as Jose also happens to be a bit of a philosopher himself, having written a book on the subject, and his lyrics are based on the writings of famous philosophers, like Nietzsche and Tzu.
Where the album comes up short is in the songs themselves.
Technically, this album is brilliant, but I would honestly never listen to this album again; there's just no specific direction.

This boy/girl psycho pop sideshow (or "Brechtian punk cabaret," as they call it) is in equal measures truly transcendent and an inexorable irritant.
Boston duo The Dresden Dolls - Amanda Palmer on piano and vocals, and drummer Brian Viglione - are, I'm tempted to say, Hedwig and The Angry Inch meets The White Stripes, but that's giving The White Stripes waaay too much credit.
But then you get the broad-spectrum dynamics of songs like Half Jack, and the singular gorgeousness of what these two are capable of is nakedly apparent.

Irritant dermatitis results from chemicals (including urine and feces) contacting the skin.
The warm, moist, dark area covered by the diaper becomes irritated, and is a wonderful breeding ground for bacteria and fungi.
As you can see, frequently both irritant and infectious diaper rashes co-exist.

RC: The theme on the album is reflected in the title track, talking about how soul music of the time totally ignored the music that came before it and influenced it.
I think a lot of it was the fact that Steve Washington had a strong influence here, and his slickness combined with too much of an electronic dominance hurt it from the start.

Brutal Youth. - Days Between Stations - Column - sound recording reviews Interview - Find Articles
Flinching at Costello's floods of words, his sprung rhythms, and the refusal or inability of the band to find a groove, to let a song flow and cut its own bed, all I could hear was an overwhelming clutter.
By the time the album began to breathe - five songs in, with "Clown Strike," then four songs later, with "Sulky Girl" - I couldn't hear that.
As the album goes on and quiets itself, as it reaches "Rocking Horse Road," "All the Rage," and the slow, spare, chilling "Favourite Hour," that sense of loss, of control and even desire slipping away, can become palpable.

For their second album, the German trio defaced various compact discs or simply pressed the fast-forward button on a CD player, then sampled and looped the resulting digital convulsions.
The softly murmuring polyrhythmic layers of "Textuell" would be lulling were they not punctuated by an unsettling, off-kilter skip that morphs throughout the album, recalling spastic castanets, tiny machine guns, or the highly amplified sound of insects munching leaves.
Despite its serene procession, Oval's sonic architecture is rivetingly unsound: the irregular skip is an addictive irritant; static and distortion cloak the mix in felt; there's always a loop that's not quite in sync.

Ben Webster : There Is No Greater Love - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Ben Webster was one of the great swing-era saxophonists, a player whose tone was a bit rougher than that of his contemporaries Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins, but who shared with them a robust, broad-toned attack that fell out of favor during the bebop years.
Webster blows sublimely throughout, delivering beautiful versions of "Easy to Love," "Stardust," "I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good)" and, especially, "Autumn Leaves." But sloppy production is an irritant throughout; the rhythm section is poorly miked, and Webster's tenor saxophone is distorted in several places.
Fans and completists shouldn't hesitate, but this album is not the best introduction to Webster's art.
