Irthlingborough Church was founded under the will of John & Joan Pyel, and erected around 1400, their memorial can be found in the John Pyel Chapel on the south side of the main altar.
Unusually amongst Northamptonshire churches Irthlingborough church has a lantern tower (a feature normally associated with churches on the Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire fens).
The cross has been the focal point of Irthlingborough since the late 13th Century, the shaft being used as a land measure.

A village at the junction of the rivers Nene and Ise in Huxloe Hundred in eastern Northamptonshire, Irthlingborough is of ancient origin.
The Peterborough court rolls for May 19, 1646 record a conveyance of a cottage in Irthlingborough by Matthew and Ellen Britchford to the court so that it may be restored to him for life and then pass to Richard and Anthony Britchford.
The next record of Britchfords is in January 1656, when Thomas Britchford of Irthlingborough was requested to keep the peace.

With support from the council and the Countryside Agency, a project worker spent 2 months researching and completing a Healthcheck report which summarises the wishes of the local community and what they think is needed for the economic, environmental and social development of Irthlingborough.
Regular updates on the group’s progress and any needs for volunteers on specific projects will be displayed on the Irthlingborough Town Council Message Board outside Kwik Save, on the Irthlingborough Town Council website (www.irthlingborough-town-council.co.uk) or in articles of the Nene Valley News or other local media.
