Irwin Allen (June 12, 1916 – November 2, 1991) was a television and film producer nicknamed "The Master of Disaster" for his work in the disaster film genre.
In the 1960s Allen moved into television as a producer and was responsible for series such as Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1964–1968), Lost in Space (1965–1968), The Time Tunnel (1966–1967), Land of the Giants (1967–1970) and The Swiss Family Robinson (1975–1976).
In the 1970s Allen returned to cinema screens and was the most popular name associated with the decade's fad for the disaster movie genre.

In 1975, Robert Irwin donated a "Piece to be designed and executed within the designated space of the Bidder," to the benefit auction held to raise money for the construction of Oberlin's Ellen Johnson Gallery of Modern Art, designed by the firm of Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates.
Robert Irwin was born in Long Beach, California, in 1928, and studied at the Otis Art Institute (1948-50) and the Chouiard Art Institute, Los Angeles (1952-54).
Throughout the 1950s, Irwin painted in the Abstract Expressionist style only to reject it later for lacking "potency." In the early 1960s, Irwin, like other Minimalist sculptors, began to experiment with ways to make the work of art represent nothing other than itself.

Allen was from the old school, starting out as an announcer on LA's KCAL radio, entering television briefly at first, long enough to be credited with inventing the first celebrity panel show in the late-'40s.
Irwin Allen's brand of ‘science' fiction was popular fare during the '60s, you just had to forget the major lapses in logic and enjoy the ride.
Allen would direct only the pilot episodes of his TV series himself, a consistent problem became his tendency for blowing his wad during the first quarter of the season and then hacking out the remainder.
