Hannah Brooke Briggs, the wife of Isaac Briggs, who appears to have lived at Sandy Spring during the latter part of his life and the chief interest in the collection is to be found in the records of the activities of Isaac Briggs, who was born in 1763 and died in 1825.
Isaac Briggs appears to have wandered about as a doctor of Thompsonism for a number of years, through the South, and then, after a stay with the family at Sharon, finally landed in Philadelphia in the employ of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.

Isaac Briggs, father of Harry F., was born at Wheeling, West Virginia, in 1828, and when he was a boy his parents moved out to Illinois and he grew up in Iroquois County of that state.
She was born in Ohio in 1841 and died at Oneida, Kansas, in 1916.
School; Jeanette, born in 1907, and Gwendolyn, born in 1911, are the youngest children and are in the early grades of the local school.

Henry Briggs may have lived in the area that is now Columbiana Co., or possibly he moved to Washington Twp., Dutchess Co., NY, where a Henry Briggs is found adjacent to a Stephen Barber in the 1790 census.
A Henry Briggs served in Cooper's Regiment B of the New York Militia, Orange Co., N.Y. His pension record [cited in Lillian Briggs Gosman's 1956 letter to cousin Adele] at the National Archives is #16846-3/6, sworn by Col. Gilbert Cooper February 23, 1786.
A letter of Lillian (Briggs) Gosman, dated 9/1/61, states that her ancestor, Henry Briggs, lived and passed away in Newburg, NY, and that he and his wife Hannah are buried in Bethel Cem.

John Briggs was born in Hainworth, Yorkshire, the son of a weaver, and was baptised at Keighley on 23 December 1770.
A letter written from John Briggs, the son of James, brother of the clockmaker, (in other words the clockmaker's nephew) in 1850 to his brother, Isaac, includes the following reference to Joseph of Leeds: 'I enclose a letter I received this morning from cousin Joseph, in Leeds.
But what makes John Briggs more interesting than most is the unique glimpse into his personal life and those of his estranged sons, things we know purely because of the genealogical interest taken by present-day descendants.

Briggs entered a guilty on June 10 to a charge of money laundering and is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 20.
A second theft count in the indictment charged that on Dec. 20, 2002, Goddard and Briggs undertook and completed a similar fraud involving the 280-84 Orange Ave.
It was charged that while a contract to purchase the property never materialized, Goddard and Briggs fraudulently secured a mortgage for the property in the name of the potential buyer and kept $154,405 in proceeds.
