Isaac Coles (2 March 1747 - 3 June 1813) was an American statesman from Virginia.
Coles was born in Richmond, Virginia in 1747.
Coles died on his plantation near Chatham, Virginia in 1813.

Coles was the predictable choice as premier; he had led the movement in the assembly, on the hustings, and as chairman of a five- man committee of the house formed in 1850 to correspond with sympathetic British parliamentarians.
The James Coles (1783-1861), born Somerset and settled on Prince Edward Island, was married to Sarah Tally (1786-1857) and his son George (1810-1875), born in PEI was married at East Pennard, Somerset to Mercy Haines.

The first two folders in the second box contain letters from Joseph C. Cabell to Isaac A. Coles of "Green Mountain," Albemarle County, and secretary to President Thomas Jefferson, chiefly pressing Coles to visit.
Wirt (1807 Jul 26); and Cabell asking Coles about the condition of affairs with England, telling him not to purchase a gig for him, if war is coming (1807 Nov 18 and 1808 Sep 21).
Also present is one letter from William H. Cabell to John Coles concerning the health of his son, Isaac Coles (1804 Sep 30) and one letter from Charles J. Cabell seeking a government position (1808 Oct 28).

Near by is a family cemetery with thirty graves holding six generations of Coles and Bruces still owned by the Bruce family.
At his death in 1837 James Bruce was the third wealthiest person in America and the largest slave owner in the U.S. The grounds stayed in the Bruce family until 1948 when it was sold to Fred Watkins of South Hill.
