Topic: Isham Talbot

National Ministries - Front & Center - Christian Educators of the 20th Century
He particularly noted Isham's interest in and work with children, and her ability to share her passions with others, as well as simply to be a friend.
The key criterion for the recognition Isham received is an influence on Christian education and its development, in North America specifically.
Here Isham provides a combination of theory and practice as she suggests action that can be taken during this time of reevaluation and preparation for a new century of Christian education.

 James Theodore Talbot
Talbot, who wrote his journal for his mother, had a particularly good eye and he provided some of the best descriptions of what the first pioneers saw as moved north and west in Kansas Territory.
It seems unlikely that young Theodore Talbot was aware of any of the foregoing because, given his penchant for recording details in his letters and journals, he could hardly be expected to miss such an important one.
Talbot spent the first eight months of 1848 in Vera Cruz but by mid September 1848, he was back at Fort Columbus on Governor's Island in New York Harbor.

The Caused Beginning of the Universe: A Response to Quentin Smith
It is remarkable that Smith has so high a degree of confidence in quantum fluctuation models that he thinks it unreasonable to believe in (TH), for this is tantamount to saying that in light of these theories it is no longer reasonable to hold to a Big Bang model involving a singularity.
Isham regards this difficulty as "fairly lethal" to vacuum fluctuation models and reports that "theories of this type have not found wide acceptance," commenting that their interest "lies mainly in some of the rather general problems" that they raise ([1990], p.
{14} Isham remarks, "Although these schemes differ in their details they all agree on the idea that space and time emerge in some way from a purely quantum mechanical region which can be described in some respects as if it were a classical, imaginary-time four-space" ([1992], sec.

 Book Review
The son of Senator Isham Talbot of Kentucky, Theodore was born in 1825 to a family of wealth and prominence.
The adventure having had a salutary effect on Talbot's precarious health, he eagerly joined Fremont's third expedition in 1845, and was thus involved in the Bear Flag Revolt and the outbreak of the Mexican War.
Because the letters are all addressed to either Talbot's mother or sister, it might be assumed that Talbot confined himself largely to the banal and mundane because, as a creature of the nineteenth century, he believed more elevated matters to be beyond female comprehension.

Isham's first visit to Four Oaks, during World War II, set the pattern for many episodes of the kind, better recollected in tranquillity than experienced at the time.
It was Isham who, with the Hydes' help, was responsible for the arrival of the long-lost Boswell papers at Yale.
In 1946, the Hydes helped him complete the last purchase and buy out the interest of Cumberland Infirmary (its improbable claim rested on a legacy from a Boswell descendant, who had not known of of the lost papers when she left the residue of her estate to the hospital).

When James Smith Talbot was drafted on 10 Jun 1780, to serve in the State Troops of Virginia, he may have been the youngest of his family to serve.
The stage was set for James Smith Talbot and the other raw recruits to receive their baptism of fire and for General Horatio Gates to see his military ruined.
In 1850, W. Houghland made a statement in Carroll County, KY that he became acquainted with Isham Talbot in New Orleans in 1812 and that Isham told him he came to Kentucky and left his brother James in the service and that he, Isham, returned to Virginia to get his brother later.

John Talbot's plantation, call Mt. Pleasant, was located near the plantation of the widow of General Nathaniel Greene and, indeed, serious questions exist as to whether Eli Whitney was working on the Widow Green's plantation or John Talbot's when he invented the Cotton Gin.
