Ishamael - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ishamael is one of the primary antagonists of the Wheel of Time fantasy series by Robert Jordan.
It is believed that Ishamael was responsible for every major crisis since the Breaking, including the Trolloc Wars and the War of the Hundred Years, as well as the founding of the Black Ajah.
In any case, Ishamael came to believe that he was part of the eternal struggle between the Dragon and the Shadow, and that he had been a part of that struggle not only in the Age of Legends, but throughout time.

Moridin's blank-faced servants are identical to Ishamael's servants from the prologue of TGH.
Ishamael is the only other villain to worry seriously over events from other cycles, as he asserts in the prologue of TEOTW that he and Lews Therin have fought again and again since the beginning of time.
However, since we now know the general shape of Ishamael's activities during his rare periods of activity (as hinted at throughout the series and almost spelled out in the Guide) as well as his care in creating a cell structure for the Black Ajah, it is clear that Ishamael excels at behind the scenes manipulations.

It is now widely believed that Ishamael was only partially bound in the Sealing done by the Dragon and his Hundred Companions.
Ishamael was supposedly giving instructions to Darkfriends as much as fifteen years in advance of the release of the remaining Forsaken.
Ishamael faced Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, three times; after each encounter he was believed dead.

Ishamael had the ability to straddle that seal and therefore did not need the Dark One to extend the True Power outside of the seal.
Ishamael is halfway trapped, so he is essentially sitting on the side of the pool with his legs dangling in, and because of this, he can get around the seal to some degree without the Dark One having to somehow exert his power.
She says something like "Ishamael - fool!", and when asked by Egwene, she says that when you call Forsaken fool you are deflecting his power over you and even DO can't have power over you if you call it fool.

Ishamael's body is crumpled at his feet - the body of a man, sprawled on its back with a hole burned through the chest.
Ishamael had died mad, true, but even when he was still sane, back when it seemed they surely would drive Lews Therin Telamon to defeat, he claimed this struggle had gone on since the Creation, an endless war between the Great Lord and the Creator using human surrogates.
Ishamael was the philosopher, who had several theories about the cyclical nature of the conflict between the Dragon and the Dark One, or more specifically between the Dragon and himself.

Ishamael may have betrayed other people’s hopes, but I doubt he ever espoused ‘hope’ in his philosophy.
Perhaps there was, as the author implies, some bit of hope or an answer, which Ishamael cannot acknowledge, as it would mean he is on the wrong side.

Another issue here is that from all of the cases of TP being used, it is simply another form of power - like the difference between Saidin & Saidar, it is simply a different strength to do the same things in different ways.

Well, since Moridin's identity is an open secret, that there should never have been any doubt for, then I'd say that kills every possible theory for Moridin's identity except for him being Ishamael reborn since every one of those theories is loony and is not clear at all.
But Ishamael is the only one of the Forsaken to ever be accused of 'thinking he was the great lord'.
That's a pretty clear clue to who he is. As well, the others all being sealed probably lead to his delusion of grandeur, and when the others got free from the seal and found his new attitude they all stated with the.

Furthermore, his remarks to Rand, which indicate that he regards Rand as a tool or a piece in a game, bring to mind Ishamael's comments to Rand in the first three books, and also Moridin's analysis of the sha'rah game in [TPOD: Prologue, Deceptive Appearances, 42-44].
