Ishinomaki (石巻市; -shi) is a city located in Miyagi, Japan.
As of 2003, the area that the current city occupies had an estimated population of 171,068 and the density of 308.04 persons per km².
On April 1, 2005, Ishinomaki merged with six towns, Kahoku, Kanan, Kitakami, Monou, and Ogatsu of the former Monou county, and Oshika from Oshika county to more than quadruple its area and add nearly 60,000 people to its population.

Part of the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) system, it runs from Aoba-dōri Station in Sendai, Miyagi to Ishinomaki Station in Ishinomaki, Miyagi, providing access to the central coast areas of Miyagi Prefecture, significantly the Matsushima area.
It connects with the Sendai Subway at Aoba-dōri Station in Sendai; the Tōhoku Shinkansen, the Tōhoku Main Line and the Senzan Line at Sendai Station in Sendai; and the Ishinomaki Line in Ishinomaki.

TOKYO — Six ships left a port in northern Japan on Monday for a whale hunt in an offshore research program that critics have denounced as a cover for commercial whaling.
The fleet departed a port in Ishinomaki, Miyagi prefecture (state) to intercept up to 60 minke whales thought to be located within a 48- to 80-kilometer (30- to 50-mile) area offshore, according to the Fisheries Agency.
The ships will return by the end of May, and the catch will be used to study what whales eat, the agency said in a statement.
