Isla Coronado (also called Isla Smith on some charts) is an uninhabited 3 1/2 mile long island crowned by a perfect volcanic cone at its north end.
Isla Estanque, at the southeast end of Isla Angel de la Guarda is connected to the main island by a reef.
Isla Estanque is also known as "Pond Island" because of the well protected lagoon at its southern end, and "Isla Vibora", for the many red rattlesnakes that live there.

Isla Rasa is very flat and very small, but as many as half a million birds nest on this island at once.
It is between Isla Angel de la Guarda and Isla San Lorenzo, west of Isla Tiburon, in the midriff island region of the Gulf of Calfornia (28° 49 ´ N, 112° 59´ W), approximately 60 km (37 miles) southeast from Bahia de los Angeles, Baja California.
Isla Rasa is much flatter and lower than nearby islands, with a maximum elevation of just 35 m (115 feet), compared to a mean elevation of about 500 m (1600 feet) on the other islands.

Crotalus comes from the Greek crotalon, meaning a rattle or little bell; angelensis is a latinized spelling of the island Angel de La Guarda in the Gulf of California.
In Spanish, rattlesnakes are known as La Vibora de Cascabel.
It is known to occur throughout Isla Angel de La Guarda from the beaches to at least 1500 feet in elevation.

Bahia de los Angeles was discovered in 1746 by Jesuit father Fernando Consag, in his attempt to find an easier and faster way to the Sea of Cortez to supply the missionaries that occupied the San Francisco de Borja Mission, which was located on the top of a mountain 35 kilometers from the bay.
Isla Coronada (also known as Isla Smith) is three km (two miles) northeast of Punta La Gringa, while the southern tip of Isla Angel de la Guarda is 19 km (12 miles) away.
Most anchorages on Isla Angel de la Guarda, the second-largest island in the Sea of Cortez after Tiburon, are a day's sail from Bahía de los Angeles.
