Islam is an Abrahamic, monotheistic religion founded in the 7th century based on the religious text known as the Quran.
According to Islam, the religion was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad when Allah sent an angel to dictate a series of revelations to him, which Muhammad memorized.
Besides the Qur'an, the others are the Law of Moses (the Taurah), the Psalms of David (the Zabûr) and the Gospel of Jesus (the Injil).

Inclusive Muslims focus on the similarities between people of faith in general and Islam, Christianity, and Judaism in particular, stressing the universality of Islam and seeing other religions as reflections of the same higher truth (albeit less perfect versions).
During the ten years that Muhammad led his followers against the Meccans and then against the other Arab tribes, Christian and Jewish communities who had submitted to Muslim rule were allowed to worship in their own way and follow their own family law, and were given a degree of self-government.
Other Muslims, however, appreciate religious freedom and are tolerant of other faiths.

Islam and Other Religions - by Shaheed Ismail Raji al Faruqi
Islam succeeded in a field where all other religions failed because of its unique theology, which recognized the true, one, and only religion of God to be innate in every person, the primordial base of all religions, identical with Sabianism, Judaism, and Christianity.
In this task of historical criticism of all the religions of history, all humans are brothers and must cooperate to establish the primordial truth underlying all the religions.
It alone among the religions and ideologies of the world was large enough in heart, in spirit as well as in letter, to give mankind the gift of a pluralism of laws with which to govern their lives under the aegis of its own metareligious principles and laws.

Most religious historians view Islam as having been founded in 622 CE by Mohammed the Prophet (peace be upon him).* He lived from about 570 to 632 CE).
Some Western writers in the past have referred to Islam as "Mohammedism"; this is deeply offensive to many Muslims, as its usage can lead some to the concept that Mohammed the Prophet (pbuh) was in some way divine.

ISLAM, a major world religion, founded in Arabia and based on the teachings of Muhammad, who is called the Prophet.
It was also used for winning converts to Islam; for the ransom of war captives; for the relief of people in chronic debt; for jihad (the struggle for the cause of Islam, or holy war), which, according to the Koran commentators, includes health and education; and for facilitating travel and communications.
Other intellectuals in Egypt, Turkey, and India attempted to reconcile with the teachings of the Koran such ideas as those raised by constitutional democracy, science, and the emancipation of women.

 Islam and Other Religions
Islam and the other revealed religions are expressions of the one Primordial Tradition, the Sophia Perennis.
This doctrine is implicit within Islam, that all the prophets from Adam to Muhammad, sent to every nation, brought essentially the same message which was renewed again and again through the ages.
The modern fundamentalist movements in the various religions are not a return to the original traditions; on the contrary, they are an even worse breaking up of the traditions which were already damaged by modernity.

On the other hand, there are no countries in which people are automatically assigned to the Baha'i Faith at birth (as is the case with Islam, Christianity, Shinto, Buddhism, and other faiths), so their numbers aren't inflated with people who have never willingly participated in or been influenced by the religion while adults.
