The madrassas of Pakistan are said to be the breeding ground for much of South and Central Asian militancy, but for the accusations made there is precious little known about these Islamic seminaries and their students.
The madrassas saw themselves as preservers of Islamic identity and heritage during the colonial era when secular studies displaced the Islamic texts as well as the classical languages of the Indian Muslims -Arabic and Persian- from their privileged pedestal.
