STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE -- Fr. Frank Pavone influences Catholic Vote on Abortion
Since he took over as national director of Priests for Life, Father Pavone has expanded the organization to include nine full-time staff members—three of them, including his chief-of-staff Anthony DeStefano, who are from Staten Island—and dozens of volunteer workers.

By DIANE C. As the countdown toward the Republican and Democratic national conventions begins, a Roman Catholic priest formerly assigned to Staten Island is emerging as a major behind-the-scenes player in influencing the opinion and votes of the nation's Catholic constituency.

 The Isua Rocks
Significantly, the rocks at Isua and at the nearby Akilia Island contain isotopic evidence implying that life not only existed by the time the rocks were deposited, it had already evolved the capacity to photosynthesize.
Evidence for life at this time comes from carbon-isotope data taken from tiny grains of carbon found in minute graphite inclusions in a rock formation discovered on Akilia Island, It may be as old as 3.85 Ga, as reported in a Nature cover story (Mojzsis et al, Nature 384, 1996).
Very large impactors would have the capacity to boil off the oceans and sterilize life, Fedo says, leading some scientists to believe that life may have had more than one origination, because even if life appeared much earlier, it may not have survived the assault.

Akilia island -- Facts, Info, and Encyclopedia article
Akilia is the location of a controversial rock outcropping that some geologists believe is the oldest known (Rock formed from consolidated clay sediments) sedimentary rocks, and perhaps the oldes evidence of life on (The 3rd planet from the sun; the planet on which we live) Earth or anywhere else.
If the Akilia rocks do show evidence of life at 3.85Ga, the time available for life to organize itself on Earth would be tightly limited, since other evidence suggests the Earth would not be hospitable to life before 3.9Ga.
It has been claimed that the Akilia sediments include banded iron beds, thought to be the result of oxygen released by (additional info and facts about photosynthetic) photosynthetic organisms combining with dissolved iron to form insoluble iron oxides.
