Few Lowland malts age well beyond their teens as the lightness of the whisky tends to be overpowered by the oak and cedar notes that emerge from the cask.

They are called vatted malts which means they are all made up from single malt scotch, but contain more than one malt in the final bottling.
These rooms are open to the air, so this is where the island malts pick up their salt or sea weed flavorings.

Bushmills single malt is a disappointment, frankly I prefer the Suntory puremalt.
For the lighter flavoured highland malts I would suggest either Glen Goyne, Macallan or possibly Glen Morangie (Rhymes with orangey, used to be Jeffie's favorite).

Ireland is not as renowned as Scotland for its single malts.
The sixteen year old Malt, is sub-titled three woods because the whiskey is matured in bourbon, sherry and port wood.
This unpeated Malt is very vague about it's origins stating only that it's "a combination of single malt whiskies..." I don't get the tell tale Cooley nose, so it is probably from Bushmills, though it is lacking in the signature sweetness of the Antrim gold.
