PORTSMOUTH - Members of the Planning Board said they are concerned about the traffic and environmental impacts of a proposed mixed-use development between Borthwick Avenue and Islington Street.
Developers of the so-called Islington Woods project attended a work session held by the board Thursday evening, where board members, city councilors and planning officials heard the case for developing the 47-acre parcel.
Noting the high number of accidents along Islington Street, board member John Sullivan said he did not want to see any extra vehicles on the road.

In later years this seldom-used diamond was eliminated and the service track was extended eastward on a sharp curve across Osler Avenue and connected to the North Toronto Sub.
The area under Islington began on the west bank of the Humber River, past Islington Station at Islington Avenue, past Obico where the cut-off was, to Summerville at Dixie Road, to Dixie at Cathraw Road, and Cooksville.
The station (built 1922) at Islington faded in importance and was closed for passenger service in the 1960’s remaining as a freight agency for some years longer.

Later during the fur trade era, it was used by both the French and the English traders.
The trail splits at Woodbridge, with one fork crossing the east branch of the Humber and going up the west side of the branch, following roughly the line of Islington Avenue to the vicinity of Kleinberg where it re-crossed the river.
This trail was probably used during the seasons when the water was low enough to ford.
