Islington is a borough of London to the north of the City of London, west of Hackney, east of Camden, and south of Haringey.
It was formed in April 1965 through amalgamation of the Metropolitan Borough of Islington and the Metropolitan Borough of Finsbury.
Islington contains one of the largest intact areas of urban Georgian architecture, and the borough is also known for its shopping facilities and "trendy" restaurants, bars and clubs.

Christopher Robert "Chris" Smith, Baron Smith of Finsbury, PC (born 24 July 1951) is a British Labour Party politician and former Member of Parliament and Cabinet minister.
He worked for a housing charity and became a councillor in the London Borough of Islington before narrowly winning the seat of Islington South and Finsbury at the 1983 General election, defeating George Cunningham.
It was announced on 30 April 2005 that he was to be created a life peer, and the title was gazetted on 22 June 2005 as Baron Smith of Finsbury, of Finsbury in the London Borough of Islington.

From the figures posted on the London Elects website by the returning officer for Greater London, votes cast in the FPTP election for London Assembly constituency member in the wards of Barnsbury, Bunhill, Caledonian, Canonbury, Clerkenwell, Holloway, St Mary's, St Peter's were 4,492 for Labour and 4,480 for Lib Dem.
Allocating postal votes cast in the Borough of Islington between the two Westminster seats in the borough leads to a revised total of 4,765 for Labour and 4,785 for Lib Dem.
She has been a terrible councillor for my ward, a terrible executive member of Islington’s over paid council and would be a disastrous MP anywhere, but especially Islington.

Islington Green Party was formed in 1982 and has stood candidates in every Council and Parliamentary election since then.
We have two Green members on the Greater London Assembly, and the North-East constituency (of which Islington is one-third) saw the highest Green vote in London.
James Humphreys contested Islington South and Finsbury, the first time the Greens had stood since 1987, and won 4.8% of the vote.
