	Understanding the 'Isms'
		Active 'isms' are the 'isms' that are used by the proponents of the 'isms' to describe themselves.
		And it is the belief of the adherents of the active 'isms', that adherence to whatever 'ism' they happen to choose gives them a right to interfere with the lives, freedom and property of those who are not the proponents of their 'ism'.
		The commonality of all passive 'isms' is the belief of the inventors of the 'ism' that they have a right to interfere with the life, freedom and property of those whom they choose to label as 'ists'.

	White Paper: The Information Security Management System of BS 7799-2:2002 - The Management System for ISO 17799
		An ISMS policy has to be defined that includes objectives, legal or regulatory requirements, contractual obligations, strategic organisational and risk management context and risk assessment criteria.
		Monitoring the operation of the ISMS includes detecting errors in the results of processing, identifying security breaches, auditing performance, identifying actions taken to resolve a security breach, following up actions in case of security breaches.
		Audits shall ensure that all elements of the ISMS conform to the requirements of the standard and identified information security requirements, are effectively implemented and maintained and perform as expected.

	How 7799 Works
		An ISMS is the means by which Senior Management monitor and control their security, minimising the residual business risk and ensuring that security continues to fulfil corporate, customer and legal requirements.
		Detailed guidance is given in Appendix B to the standard, and an example is given in our paper on measuring the effectiveness of an internal control system (an ISMS is part of an internal control system).

	The isms of Legalism
		Legalism is a philosophy that has given birth to a number of other isms that help to perpetuate and reinforce the concept.
