Isobel’s murderer, whom she remembers as a lion (36), represents the horrors she observes, and she warns other characters against him: “The lion is here, in your streets.
The difference is that Isobel begins as a dead, confused child in need of help, but Annie begins as a live adult with a family and a career – and yet she becomes a subject only by becoming a ghost.

Lady Isobel Barnett (June 30, 1918 - October 20, 1980) was a British television personality, popular during the 1950s and 1960s.
She appeared as an actress, but it was as a panellist on BBC television shows such as What's My Line[?] that she became famous.

Although Jerzy Maksymiuk’s 1992 recording of The Confession of Isobel Gowdie has served the catalogue well for a decade (and indeed helped the piece reach a much wider public), I always had a feeling that more justice could be done to the work.
The cumulative effect, especially as the tension mounts towards the horrifying climactic immolation, is vividly realised, and he better integrates the undisguised echoes of other composers into the texture.
Tuireadh is Gaelic for lament, and was written in response to the Piper Alpha explosion, in particular a letter MacMillan received from the mother of one of the victims.
