Order Isoptera, The Colony, Castes, Termite Ecology
Isoptera is the insect order to which the termites belong.
The name Isoptera (iso = equal; ptera = wing) refers to the adult primary reproductives which possess two pairs of equal length wings.
The body plan or morphology of termites is rather simple indicating that they diverged very early in insect evolution from a generalized insect ancestor with gradual metamorphosis and the ability to fold the wings flat over the back.

Unhealthy palms were removed in 1985, after determining the probable causes of their poor growth, and replaced with new palms protected by aldrin (4.8, 6.0 or 7.2 g) or methidathion.
Ten species of Isoptera were captured in samples taken from the foot of palms or nearby, with Amitermes evuncifer being the most common and most harmful.
It initially attacked the roots, rendering the plant fragile and disrupting its water and nutrient uptake, then established galleries and chambers inside the bole of young palms (6% of palms in the plot studied on average, and up to 15-20% in places).

Isoptera, comes from the Greek meaning Equal-Wings, because when the termite was first discovered, it was believed to be some kind of flying insect; which it is but only, just like the ant, when the young reproductive kings and queens take flight to find new nest sites, so that its species continues to flourish.
As you can see their wings are large and you can see why they were called Isoptera, which comes from the Greek meaning Equal-Wings.
