Israel Pickens served as interim senator until McKinley was elected.
He was reelected to the senate, but served only from March 4 1837 to his resignation to join the Court on April 22 of that year.

 A Biography of Israel Sidney Pickens
Pickens was born in Abbeville District, South Carolina, June 5, A. His parents, Andrew and Margaret Pickens, were pious and exemplary members of the Presbyterian Church, but after moving to Tennessee, they joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, in the communion of which they spent the remnant of their long and useful lives.
Pickens came from South Carolina and settled in Tennessee, the country was quite new, and the facilities for an education were very poor, and he was denied the privileges and advantages of well-regulated schools.
The name of Father Pickens had become a sort of household word throughout the bounds of the Memphis Presbytery; besides, he was a man known for his devotion to the Church, and for his readiness to respond to her every call, throughout the length and breadth of the whole Church.

 Rev. Israel Sydney Pickens 1799-1876
Pickens was born in South Carolina, on the 5th day of June, 1799; settled near Moscow, Tenn., nearly fifty years ago, where he lived a faithful and zealous minister of the gospel, and a true and influential Mason, until his death, which occurred on the 12th day of December, 1876.
Pickens and Edmond E. Mitchenor were received under the care of the Presbytery, and that I. Pickens was ordered (this was the language used in those days) to prepare a written discourse or sermon to be read at the next meeting of the Presbytery, from St. John, third chapter and third verse.
Pickens died, he responded to what was known then as the Waterhouse proposition--to pay to the Board of Publication fifty dollars, to assist in the purchase of a new book-press.

This is the only Davis in that cemetery that I have not been able to connect to my line.
As Israel is not that common to the Davis lines, maybe he is a cousin to yours.

The records in Bucks Co., PA from Neshaminy Presbyterian Church indicate that William Pickens and his wife, Margaret were from Ireland and were admitted to the church in Neshaminy by certificate in April of 1720.
The records of the Dutch Reformed Church, Bensalem and Neshaminy, Bucks County, Pennsylvania 1719-1722 show "William Peckens eyn hausfrau and Israel Pecken eyn hausfrau" on a list of "Newcomers from Eerlandt" received by certificate, during the ministry of Reverend Malachi Jones.
By the time the Pickens family arrived, church membership had increased to 42, twenty-seven of whom were Scotch-Irish.

A correspondent in Pennsylvania giving the names of the Pickens pioneers, says that the names of " William Peckens eyn hausfrau" and "Israel Pecken eyn Hausfrau" appear on the list of "new Comers from Eerlandt".
He was buried in the the Pickens cemetery in Anderson District.

Notes for ISRAEL PICKIN: Because of mis-information the names and where about of Israel's family is not know to me. We do know that he came to America in or before 1720.
And Thompson Pickens was the son of John Pickens born in 1752 in Ballamony Parrish - Antrim N. Ireland - He served in the Rev war and I will be posting his Pension file when we are finished transcribing it.
Notes for JOHN A PICKENS: these are not fact only suppositions: John was a farmer and he is known to have committed suicide by hanging; the reason was family problems.
