 Israeli University Bar-Ilan
The name Bar-Ilan was chosen, in honor of Rabbi Meir Bar- Ilan (Berlin), a spiritual leader who led traditional Judaism from the ashes of Europe to rebirth and renaissance in the Land of Israel.
Bar- Ilan becomes the first Israeli university to be granted a charter of academic recognition by American authorities (New York State).
Yaakov Neeman (1999-today) led the university through this period of astounding and rapid growth, leading to the definition of the university master plan to double in size by building some $200 million of new facilities on a campus extension north of the main campus in Ramat Gan.

 Al-Ahram Weekly | Region | A swirl in a cup?
The idea that a boycott would push Israeli academics to stand against their government's policies also appealed to a segment of those who were in favour of the motion.
Bar Ilan University set up an advisory board for academic freedom which took out an advert in The Guardian comparing the boycott to the persecution of academics in Germany in the preceding years of World War II.
Moreover, the proposition put forward by the initiative included a Palestinian call to exclude 'conscientious Israeli academics and intellectuals opposed to their state's colonial and racist policies' which was seen as problematic to a large number of British academics who wondered about the selection process and the criteria it will follow.

The University of Haifa also felt that in a university community in which everyone supposedly had a good reading knowledge of English, using English subject terminology would not be too great a handicap.
It would appear that with the exception of Bar-Ilan University's split-file approach, the Israeli university libraries feel reasonably comfortable with using English terminology for their subject retrieval (either via LCSH headings or enhancements to the classified catalog).

The fact that an Israeli university like Bar-Ilan is giving sponsorship to this college is a mark of shame on the Israeli academic world.
To silence the British, the lecturers' organizations in Israel as well as the heads of the universities must make every possible effort to prevent the Council for Higher Education from upgrading the status of the College of Judea and Samaria, until such time as it is relocated inside the territory of the State of Israel.
In this way, Israeli academia can become the vanguard in the shaping of a new policy that will change the parade of evil in which we have been trudging for the past 38 years.

The immediate impetus was an expose some months ago in the Israeli daily Maariv on Rav Shlomo Aviner, the revered chief rabbi of Beit El and a central figure in the religious Zionist camp — "the rabbi's rabbi," the "holy of holies," as he has been called by his followers.
Several women called Kolech to complain about Rabbi Yitzchak Cohen, a former head of, and later a lecturer in, the midrasha at Bar-Ilan University, who they claimed sexually harassed them when they were students at the university some years ago.
Despite strong pressure against Kehat, who was accused of pursuing a "feminist" agenda, the university appointed a committee, headed by a rabbi, which heard testimony from several women in the presence of the accused rabbi.

Birmingham University lecturer Sue Blackwell said she is convinced the motion will be approved this year, as boycott campaigners are better organized.
