 ISTANBUL TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATE ACADEMIC REGULATIONS
Article 1 – Undergraduate education, instruction and examinations at Istanbul Technical University Faculties and Departments are carried out according to these rules and regulations, Education and instruction at the Maritime Faculty, the Vocational School of Higher Education and the Turkish State Conservatory of Music are based on different regulations.
Article 12- Instruction at ITU Faculties and Departments is based on a curriculum determined by the Faculty Board and approved by the Senate taking into account the common courses which are determined by the Higher Education Board and accepted by the Senate in consultation with the Departments.
How the courses taken at the University abroad with the advisor’s approval and the student’s achievement grades in these courses will be evaluated in relation to his/her achievement at ITU is determined by the faculty Administrative Board in consultation with the Faculty Transfer Commission.

The structure of each "Faculty" at ITU is comparable to those of "colleges" at the U.S. institutions, where each faculty is composed of two or more "departments." For example, Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering consists of departments of electrical enginering, computer engineering, control engineering, electronics engineering and telecommunications engineering.
One of the three urban campuses of ITU is Taskisla Campus.

 FEMA: FEMA Joins Istanbul Technical University in Training Program
The objective is to create an educational model for the development of professionally trained emergency managers in Turkey and to increase the general population's understanding of the need for earthquake planning and preparedness.
After the FEMA classes are completed, ITU plans to expand the training to national and local government officials, emergency management personnel, police, firefighters, and the general public.
FEMA has also pledged to work with ITU and other higher education institutions in Turkey to help institute graduate degree programs in emergency management similar to those offered by American colleges and universities.

Istanbul Technical University's long and distinguished history began in 1773 when it was founded by Sultan Mustafa III as the Imperial Naval Engineers' School, an institution dedicated to the training of ship builders and cartographers.
The scope and name of the school were extended and changed again in 1883 and in 1909 the school became a public engineering school which was aimed at training civil engineers who could provide the infrastucture for the rapidly building country.
With its 224 year long history, its modern teaching environment, and very strong teaching staff, Istanbul Technical University today is the personification of engineering and architectural education in Turkey.
