The Faculty of Forestry, University of Istanbul is located at Bahçeköy, Istanbul, five kilometers west of the Bosphorus, a natural strait between the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea.
The annual tuition fees and other charges imposed by the University and conditions for admission and the requirements for graduation are subject to change by the Council of Higher Education.
Considerable courses are taught by the professors of Architecture from the Technical Universities in Istanbul.

Technical training and education in forestry was begun in 1857 by establishing the first Forestry School in Istanbul under the guidance of French forest specialist Louis Tassy.
Thus “Ankara Higher Institute of Agriculture” or “The Ankara Agricultural University” (Ankara Yüksek Ziraat Enstitüsü) was founded in 1934 and the Forestry School (Orman Mektebi Âlisi) became a part of this institution as the “Faculty of Forestry” with the other Faculties of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences.
During this period the Forestry Campus was at Bahçeköy, Istanbul, and only the freshmen and for a while, sophomore classes were taught in Ankara.

The history of the Istanbul Technical University dates back to the Ottoman period, to the reign of Sultan Mustafa III.
The Muhendishane -i Bahr-i Humayun (Imperial School of Naval Engineering), founded in 1773 as the first institution in the Ottoman Empire to offer instruction in engineering in the Western sense, trained personnel in boat building and the preparation of maritime charts.
The school was first housed in the old barracks buildings at Gumussuyu but the school was later enlarged following its transfer to the Arsenal at Taskisla and Macka and the number of students and teachers greatly increased.

On the north side of Bayazit Square in Istanbul stands a large gate, the entrance to the University (Istanbul Üniversitesi; previously the War Ministry, Seras Kerat), on the site of the earliest palace of the Sultans.
To the right of the University is the 60m/200ft high Bayazit Tower (Bayazit Kulesi, 1823), now a fire-watch tower; from the top (180 steps) there are superb views of Istanbul, finest atsunset or early in the morning (mostly closed).
