		The Itabira District is located some 80 km to the ENE of Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais, within an outlier of the Rio das Velhas and Minas Supergroups that are infolded into the surrounded Archaean gneissic complex which separates them from the main Quadrilátero Ferrífero.
		The iron ores of the Itabira district occur both as hard high grade, 67% Fe hematite and as friable lower grade, 45-50% Fe itabirites that must be upgraded.
		The Itabira district is reported to contain a total of 897 million tonnes of iron ore reserves as of the end of 2002, comprising 401 Mt of hematite and 496 Mt of itabirite.

		In the dry season, the biggest problem is the amount of dust, which is more serious due to the proximity of the city of Itabira.

		This thesis examines women’s empowerment through access to and control of credit in a case study of the Banco do Povo de Itabira in Brazil.
		Data were collected from structured interviews with 29 active female repeat borrowers of the Banco do Povo.
		The pre-conditions of empowerment found here include flexible credit requirements, a gender sensitive institution, and women’s autonomous control of their businesses and finances.

		RIO DE JANEIRO - A Brazilian judge has ruled against a civil lawsuit filed by local metalworker unions in an attempt to suspend the sale of state-run Cia Acos Especiais Itabira (Acesita), a 720,000-metric-ton-a-year-capacity specialty steel producer scheduled to be auctioned off Oct. 22.
		The suit was filed Sept. 4 by nine unions in Minas Gerais state, where Acesita is located.

		The Bozano Simonsen Bank and Unibanco have agreed to sell Acesita their combined 40-percent voting-share stake in Cia Siderurgica Tubarao (CST), Brazil's largest slab producer; a 7.97-percent stake in Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (Usiminas), Brazil's second-largest flat-rolled producer; and a 12.14-percent stake in Cia Siderurgica Paulista (Cosipa), Brazil's third-largest flat-rolled producer.
