It is for this reason that members of the Italian school supported strengthening of the family and harshly condemned illegitimacy, since children born illegitimate are less likely to be loved (most were raised in orphanages in Italy at the time) and to be supervised and monitored by caring adults.

Criminology is an interdisciplinary field in the behavioural sciences, drawing especially on the research of sociologists and psychologists, as well as on writings in law.
Marxist Criminology, Conflict Criminology and Critical Criminology claim that most relationships between State and citizen are non-consensual and, as such, criminal law is not necessarily representative of public beliefs and wishes: it is exercised in the interests of the ruling or dominant class.
Criminology is a multi-disciplinary field; criminologists may have degrees in criminology, law, sociology, psychology, social policy, political science, anthropology, or other subjects.

Criminal law and criminology have, for the past several years, been confronted with a problem that reaches the very foundations and basic philosophies underlying the study and treatment of social offenders.
A younger member of the Italian School was Enrico Ferri, who contributed an emphasis upon the social factors, and gathered together and placed in logical form the various factors which enter into the making of a criminal.
Despite the vagaries which characterize the Positive School, the study of the criminal in the light of his individual characteristics played upon the environment, rather than a free moral agent who chooses to commit an act injurious to society, has greatly affected criminology.

The Holy Trinity and the Legacy of the Italian School of Criminal Anthropology by Anthony Walsh
As for children, the Italian positivists shared with numerous philosophers and psychologists throughout history, as well as with modern control theorists, that each generation constitutes a new batch of savages that have to be civilized by social institutions.
It is for this reason that members of the Italian school supported strengthening of the family and harshly condemned illegitimacy, since children born illegitimate are less likely to be loved (most were raised in orphanages in Italy at the time) and to be supervised and monitored by caring adults.

The positive school of criminology was born in 1878, and although it does not stand for a mere reform of the methods of criminal justice, but for a complete and fundamental transformation of criminal justice itself, it has already gone quite a distance and made considerable conquests which begin to show in our country.
For the classic school considers such a crime according to the greater or smaller intensity and violence of passion and comes to the conclusion that the degree of responsibility decreases to the extent that the intensity of a passion increases, and vice versa.
The classic school of criminology, being unable to locate in the course of its scientific and historical mission the natural causes of crime, as I have shown in the preceding lectures, was not in a position to deal in a comprehensive and far-seeing manner with this problem of the remedy against criminality.
