Osaka International Airport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Because Itami was located in the middle of a large residential area, its expansion was severely limited, and noise and pollution problems impacted operations at the airport.
With the ongoing expansion of Kansai Airport and the opening of a third regional airport in Kobe, the Osaka metropolitan area is facing a surplus of flight slots.
While part of the reasoning behind this move is to reduce noise around the airport, many area residents have opposed the restriction as an unnecessary impediment on the airport.

Nagoya Airport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This airport IATA Airport Code used to be NGO (now overtaken by the new Centrair airport), and its ICAO Airport Code used to be RJNN when it was classified as a second class airport; the new designations are NKM for regional flights and RJNA designation for general aviation flights.
In addition, the airport was hampered by its location in a residential area of Aichi Prefecture, limiting the number of flights that can use the airport, as well as the hours in which they can fly.
All of Nagoya Airport's commercial transport flights (except for flights operated by a regional Japan Airlines' subsidiary J-AIR) moved to Centrair on February 17, 2005 and the old airport then became a general aviation and airbase facility.
