The Itochu spokesman was speaking a day after another major Japanese general trading company, Mitsubishi Corp., announced it has recently signed an agreement with Burma committing it to help that government draw up a master plan for exploitation of natural resources, as well as to promote Japanese investment in Burma and support Burmese exports.
Itochu's agreement was signed by the company's vice president, Takuya Yoshida, and Burmese official Brigadier General D.O. Abel, the Itochu spokesman said.
Itochu in November cut its forecast for revenue in the year ending March 31, 1995, to 15.500 trillion yen.

TOKYO (Nikkei) -- The Nihon Keizai Shimbun was cited as reporting in its Tuesday morning edition that Itochu Corp. will from October import almost all of the soybeans it uses in foodstuffs from U.S. suppliers of non-genetically modified or GM crops.
Itochu will, the story adds, become the first major Japanese trading house to guarantee that almost all their soybeans are GM-free.
The story notes that Itochu imports about 150,000-200,000 tons of soybeans a year from the U.S. for use in foodstuffs, and sells them to makers of tofu, fermented soybeans, miso and other products, and that overall imports of soybeans for use in food items are estimated to total 1.2 million tons a year in Japan.
