On the Itoman coast a reclaimed land project began and with the completion of the Itoman Port a sea route to the outer islands was established.
Itoman and Tsuno have a special connection in that during WWII students from Itoman were evacuated to Tsuno Town by the Japanese Army.
Itoman continues to develop in the 21st century with the recent completion of the Minamihama reclaimed land project and the new Itoman City Hall.

I joined Itoman Dojo, a karate academy of Master Seiko Higa, in October 1952.
At that time, the Dojo was located in front of Itoman Elementary School and faced a bus road.
We hung the signboard that says "Itoman Goju-ryu Karate Dojo, Nippon Butokukai Renshi, Higa Seiko" (= Goju-ryu Karate Academy in Itoman City, Chief Instructor: Seiko Higa who was awarded the title "Renshi" by Dai Nippon Butokukai) at the entrance of the Dojo.
