Comic Legacy - Action Comics New Artist Speaks Out   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-15)
Reis’ stylings of the character earned him a place in many fans’ eyes directly behind original Lady Death artist Steven Hughes as one of their favorite artists to handle the character.
As Reis’ star continued to rise, the artist was courted by CrossGen who had him illustrate and issue of Crux, and then, re-team with Lady Death creator Brian Pulido for Brian Pulido’s Lady Death [the character’s relaunch at CrossGen after the Florida publisher purchased the character just prior to Chaos!’ bankruptcy] issue #1-#4 and #6.
Reis’ work on the Superman/Batman Secret Files story was his first encounter with Superman, but isn’t exactly the way he’s planning on drawing him when he settles in to Action.

Reis said he's designing the elements of this limited series to be unique, but also respectful of other incarnations involving the alien races and cultures.
Reis hopes to be working on the last part of the story when the first issue hits stores.
Reis is a brilliant artist and I became a fan of his after the under-rated run on Action.

NEWSARAMA - IVAN REIS EXCLUSIVE TO DC
With one issue of Action Comics out, Ivan Reis has opted to make DC his home — the penciller has signed a two year exclusive deal with the publisher.
According to Reis, it was DC who approached him with the intent of securing his services.
Reis' artwork was fine, though I suspect it will get better as he grows more comfortable with the characters.

In Part 2 of CBR's Superman celebration, CBR News spoke with Ivan Reis, the artist of "Action Comics" and as one might expect, the young penciller is quite excited about illustrating the Man Of Steel.
Approaching Superman from a visual perspective, Reis feels there are some aspects of the character that one needs to stress and some that just capture readers by their sheer innovation.
The reaction to Reis' "Secret Files" work was universally positive and while he was nervous about illustrating Superman and Batman, he feels more comfortable as his style has evolved.

Reis and Emberlin do great work here with the art chores.
For "guest artists" they do a phenomenal job capturing the action and excitement of the arc and generally in keeping a similar style and flavor as the other artists (many and varied though they be) who have contributed to this overall story line.
Although there are a few places this issue where Reis fails with regard to angle and perspective -- most notably, in my mind, in the sequence in which the Wasp is rescued -- the art is very clear and not at all confusing.

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1976, Reis was only fourteen when he sold stories to Histórias Reais de Drácula (“Dracula’s Real Stories”), a magazine from Bloch Editores, and drew caricatures for Fenix Editora.
Most recently, Reis has drawn Crux and Brian Pulido’s: Lady Death for CrossGen before gaining the attention of DC editor Eddie Berganza, who gave him the penciling assignments for Superman and Batman: Secret Files.
Reis, Chuck Austen and his all-time favorite inker (and pal) Marc Campos will ensure this book will make a huge splash in this year’s revamp of the Superman titles.

Teen Titans Outsiders Secret Files 2003
Ivan Reis [Superman/Batman Secret Origins] pencils for the Outsiders members while Carlo Barberi draws the Titans side of the story.
Reis’ gritty line work and more straight forward style is linked to the Outsiders persona while the lighter toned cartoonish style of Barberi is well suited to the Titans personality.
This story gives away a few hints as to future storylines within both series and there are a couple of interesting ‘origin’ style clues to some of the lesser known team members for both parties.

Reis is really on his game when it comes to the art, and he and the writer present a tense story that puts one in mind of monster horror movies like Alien and The Evil Dead.
This book is easily the best work that Ivan Reis has produced in mainstream comics to date.
Before, I didn't really see him as much more than a simply capable fill-in artist, but from now on, this is the level of work that people in the industry and readers will come to expect from him.

Comixfan Forums - ACTION COMICS #819 REVIEW
Joe Prado joins Ivan Reis on pencils this issue with each artist handling the separate, yet intermingled storylines.
Ivan Reis does an admirable job handling the fight scene, but the visuals fall flat with the boring costume design and power signatures of Sodom and Gomorrah.
I would have liked to have seen Ivan do the whole issue as I have been enjoying his ability to convey drama and feeling through the expressions of the characters and I think the Lana scenes would have benefited from his work.

but Ivan Reis' particular vision of this symbol of death and rebirth is so familiar that Marvel would have a very good case if even a single redhead appeared in this issue.
Ivan Reis and Marc Campos dial up the sci-fi action nicely: Planetary-scale destruction and violence, spaceship fleets, cool looking aliens flying around...
Reis manages to make everything look equally fantastic and grim; the hawk-folk look plenty tough and threatening, while Adam Strange maintains the right amount of sci-fi retro-cool.

It really is a shame, because Ivan Reis and Marc Campos have turned in some pretty spectacular artwork here.
They show the slight smile that plays across Superman's face as he adopts his superheroic identity, conveying the feeling of relief he gets from changing out of his milquetoast secret identity and other subtle storytelling cues, but they're at their best when they're working on something bigger.

Future Impact for June, 2004:   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-15)
The reason for this, perhaps, is that he keeps the plot simple and allows very little room for corny dialogue to seep in, letting spectacular artists Ivan Reis and Marc Campos convey most of the power of the story.
The battle is truly intense thanks in no small way to Ivan Reis’ stunningly powerful art, and there is no inclusion of any subplot at all to allow for any sort of respite from the battle -- it’s 22 pages of nonstop action.
The ending is a pretty powerful cliffhanger, not because of any anticipation of the resolution (though there is plenty of anticipation evoked by this book), but because of the sudden power of the image and it centering the story in a large scale, real-world tragedy.

 The Invisibles: Kissing Mr Quimper
The aftermath of the Invisibles' encounter with the Hand of Glory; the impact of Quimper's mind control over reluctant team leader Ragged Robin; and the return of the god/UFO from New Mexico are just some of the stylishly mind-bending tales collected in THE INVISIBLES: KISSING MISTER QUIMPER.
Written by JLA's Grant Morrison, with ultra- fashionable art by Chris Weston, John Stokes, Ray Kryssing, Ivan Reis, and Mark Pennington, KISSING MISTER QUIMPER opens with the aftermath of the battle with the Archons, as King Mob's violent streak increases and other interpersonal relationships strain the fabric of the team.
This leads into the events of "The Philadelphia Experiment," as the team looks for John-a-Dreams in the City of Brotherly Love; "Black Science II," in which the bizarre god/UFO from the New Mexico facility resurfaces; and Ragged Robin's return to the future on a world-saving mission that seems doomed to failure.

So far the the three main artists the book has had have been utterly fantastic, Porter, Hitch and Mahnke (who set himself on the top of the heap with his work with Kelly I must add).
I think when JLA with Garney hits, a lot of fans will change their opinion of Garney, remember this guy used to be top ten until his X-Men run buried him in bad stories.
Ivan Reis is a great artist but he was hardly the upper deck of the comic industry.
