  Ivan Ribar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ivan Ribar (1881-1968), was a Yugoslav politician of Croatian descent.
Ivo Lola Ribar, his younger son, was in charge of the League of Young Communists of Yugoslavia (SKOJ) during the war and was proclaimed posthumously People's Hero of Yugoslavia.
Ivan Ribar died in Zagreb at the age of 87.

But home is where the heart is and Ribar's heart is in the Liberation Movement.
A few days after the Germans occupied the country, Tito met Dr. Ivan Ribar in a Belgrade flat and while Nazis patrolled the streets with guns and truncheons, the Liberation Movement was born.
An interesting sidelight on their present association is the fact that Ribar was a leader of the democratic party that dissolved the Yugoslav Communist party in 1924.

On the occasion of receiving the diplomatic letter of credit of the Israeli ambassador in Croatia Nathan Meron, Tudjman pronounced his historical tribute to Tito by saying that the antifascist movement in former Yugoslavia was "one of the most powerful in Europe, and it was headed by Croats Josip Broz Tito and Ivan Ribar".
Tito is his last argument he resorted to under pressure of the world, pressure Croatia has never been exposed to before.

The free Yugoslav radio told the world that 140 elected delegates had met in a parliament representative of free Yugoslavia.
Ivan Ribar was announced as the head of this government, and General Joseph Broz (Tito) was elevated to the rank of field marshal and made chairman of a new committee for national defense.
As might be expected, the Yugoslav government-in-exile screamed with rage, disowned Tito and the Liberation Front, and hysterically told the world that they were still the legal rulers of Yugoslavia.
