Kreuger was born in Kalmar, the eldest son of the banker, industrialist and Russian consul Ernst August Kreuger and his wife Jenny.
At the peak of his career the Kreuger fortune was estimated at a value of 30 billion Swedish kronor in 1929, equivalent to approximately 100 billion USD in 2000.
Kreuger is interred in the Norra begravningsplatsen in Stockholm.

Kreuger's path to infamy originated from his plan to run a global concern, which in the process loaned a number of governments money in return for 'managing' their nationalised Match industries.
Ivar Kreuger, was born in Kalmar Sweden on the 2nd of March, 1880, trained as a Structural Engineer, and goes to America.
