		Miguel Lopez de Legazpi chose to settle in Capiz to escape the Portuguese blockade of Cebu and because food was in greater abundance in the area.
		One notable landmark in Capiz is the Pan-ay church.
		Capiz has a total land area of 2,633 square kilometers and a population of 624,469, of which 90.5% is literate.

		In 1746, Capiz was made the seat of the politico-military government although it was still ecclesiastically controlled by the Bishopric of Cebu until May 31, 1837 when a Royal Decree made the province into an alcaldia.
		Capiz town was renamed "Roxas City" in honor of its illustrious son, the first President of the Republic of the Philippines, President Manuel Acuña Roxas.
		Capiz is one of the five provinces in Region VI, Western Visayas.

		At present, there are netcages for finfishes in Leyte, Capiz, Bohol, Cebu, and Negros in Southern Philippines and in Mindoro, Pangasinan, and Zambales in Luzon.
		This is a personal account of the operation of a finfish farm in netcages in Capiz.
		The farm which started as a pilot project was established near the fishing villages at Basiao, Ivisan, Capiz.

		A farm-level participatory survey of the impacts of disease in small-scale grouper (Epinephelus spp.) culture in the Philippines was conducted from July to September 1999.
		A total of 72 fish farmers and one co-operative with a membership of 65 families engaged in small-scale fish production from Cavite and Capiz provinces in Luzon and the Visayas Islands, respectively, were interviewed.

		By FELIPE V. City –; A policeman literally caught with his pants down with his lover inside the Sangguniang Bayan session hall of the Ivisan Municipal Building could be dismissed from the service.
		The investigation being conducted by the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) is different from the investigation being conducted by Ivisan Mayor Noel Yap and Sangguniang Bayan member Ernesto Uguil, chairman of the committee on police matters and peace and order.
		He said the woman was from Negros Occidental and was stranded in Ivisan after visiting relatives.
