  No. 25: Tommy Ivo
Ivo and his co-star, Cynthia Pepper, happened to be wearing their costumes for the show, which featured a ragtime-band theme.
In 1964, Ivo came home with the biggest prize from the historic tour of the United Drag Racing Team in England when he defeated Garlits for overall honors and was crowned the International Drag Racer of the Year in England by NHRA and the British Hot Rod Association.
Ivo campaigned a half dozen front-engine cars, including the ones with which he drove to runner-up honors at the 1964 Winternationals and 1965 Nationals, before switching to the rear-engine format in 1972.

Stephen II Kotromanić's mother was a Serbian Princess; his mother tongue was the Serbian redaction of the Church Slavonic; he was born as a Christian adherent of the Serbian Orthodox Church; he was born in Serbian-held territories.
Ivo Andrić is by all means an ethnic Croat, but he changed his nationality openly, like can be seen in his curriculum vittae kept at the University of Prishtina (Serb).
We could put a note saying that Ivo Andrich was an ethnic Croat, but I consider that the main subject are the Bosnian Serbs here, and his article (and the presence on the List of Croats) is more than sufficient, I think.

After NHRA banned the use of nitro methane as a racing fuel to gasoline only in 1957 to 1963, Ivo went from a single Buick engine dragster, to two Buick's in one dragster.
Don Prudhomme, Ivo's buddy who had cut his teeth in drag racing, accompanying Tommy as his crew on the 1960 nation wide tour, was hired to take over the driving chores, which was his first professional driving job.
By the time the series was over, the nitro ban had been lifted and Ivo moved on in his 36 car career, to the blown fuel dragsters ranks.

I am from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and when Ivo [Banac] mentions religion, the problem is (keeping in mind the topic of this session) precisely the weight of the past.
And because Ivo Banac is a historian, and I really appreciated all that he said, may I suggest that we move on to recent history.
Ivo Banac: I am very grateful for this, and, in fact, I do agree with much of it, because I think that it is literally impossible to abstract specific stories out of the general context, which is precisely what you were saying.

Tommy Ivo, Part 2 - Feature Profile & Bio - Hot Rod Magazine
Ivo celebrated the end of his show biz career with a bang: He sold his four-motor car to Tom McCurry, he opened a chassis shop with Rod Pepmuller, and in doing so, acquired a new name (“Tubular Tommy”) and went Top Fuel racing.
Ivo’s pod featured an “in case” button—that is, in case he felt they were going too fast, he could punch the button and it would activate a panic light on Arfons’ dash causing him to abort the run.
Ivo continued to run the same car for a couple of years and learned all he could from Zeuschel about building and maintaining a blown fuel engine.

Most drag racers of the 1950s were concerned primarily with performance and the appearance of their machines often suffered.  From the beginning, Ivo’s cars looked as good as they ran.
Ivo’s first real race car was his Buick-powered Model T roadster pickup. It was versatile enough to be undefeated in class, earn countless show trophies and magazine features and appear in teenage exploitation films of the 1950s.
Producers of the TV show “Margie,” in which Ivo co-starred, put a stop to his drag racing when the behemoth appeared on the December ’61 cover of Hot Rod Magazine.

Eighty-seven percent of the public questioned and 85 percent of the opinion leaders favored a treaty to prohibit nuclear weapons testing worldwide; 80 percent of both groups favored a worldwide ban on landmines; and more than 70 percent of both groups favored joining the international criminal court and the Kyoto agreement to prevent global warming.
The Bush administration opposes the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, the treaty establishing the International Criminal Court, and the Kyoto treaty.

Carhart, 530 U.S. It is the latest volley in the deceptive and unrelenting campaign to ban safe and legal pre-viability abortions under the guise of banning something called "partial-birth abortion." This campaign has been dependent on two myths since its inception in the mid-1990s.
Kopf even declined to rule on the statute's constitutionality post-viability, because there was simply no evidence that any post-viability abortions are being performed in a way that would violate the statute and thus no way for him to evaluate whether those abortions were "necessary" to preserve a woman's health.
In a disingenuous attempt to justify thumbing their nose at the Court, Congress made "findings" in the Act that claimed that the banned procedures were never necessary to protect a woman's health and, in fact, were dangerous to women.

Although it was expected that the White House would veto the law proposed by Sen. John McCain that bans cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment of foreign suspects, it appears that an agreement was reached today.
But Ivo H. Daalder, a foreign policy scholar at the Brookings Institution in Washington and a former advisor on European issues in the Clinton administration, said the diplomatic fallout was beyond repair, particularly given the White House’s stance in recent weeks opposing a torture ban.
Bush reluctantly endorsed the ban on cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of foreign detainees last week in the face of mounting pressure from the Republican-controlled Congress and U.S. allies.

Even the NHRA's ban on nitro had a positive effect on the sport, giving rise to energizing "outlaw" organizations like the United Drag Racers Association and spawning the classic Smokers March Meet in 1959 which elevated fuel racing to a Spring rite and put a whole new face on the sport.
Commenting on the skidbar design, he had observed that dragsters didn't simply roll over and skid--they tended to turn around and slam into things rearend first, where the skidbar frame offered little or no protection for the driver.

Missile Defenses: The Case for a Limited Insurance Defense
The ban on strategically significant defenses is useful only if it is difficult for either side to break out from limits imposed on the deployment of defenses.
That is why the 1972 treaty barred deployment of all but fixed, land-based interceptors and placed severe limits on the type, location, and orientation of radar installations.
An updated treaty might be able to relax some of these limits (for example, allowing for the deployment of mobile boost-phase interceptor missiles on land and at sea), while confirming others (notably a ban on space-based weapons and tracking sensors).
