		Miyagi Prefecture was formerly part of the province of Mutsu.
		Miyagi Prefecture is located in the central part of Tōhoku, facing the Pacific Ocean, and contains Tohoku's largest city, Sendai.
		Although Miyagi has a good deal of fishing and agriculture, producing a great deal of rice and livestock, it is dominated by the manufacturing industries around Sendai, particularly electronics, appliances, and food processing.

		Beginning in March 2000, students from Iwanuma City have traveled to Dover to visit Central Middle School and to learn about the culture of the United States.
		We are visiting schools and yesterday, July 3, we met with the mayor of Iwanuma and also with the Lt. Governor of Miyagi (the prefecture or state that is home to Iwanuma- it is north of Tokyo).
		I hope that this is just the beginning of a true cultural exchange between Dover and Iwanuma as all students who took part have been transformed in some way.
