Izeh is an ancient town located at the northwest of Ahwaz (the center of Khuzestan province), it takes approximately 210 km from Ahwaz to Izeh by passing Ramhormoz and Baghemalek.
This town is situated at the middle of the Zagros mountainous chain at the heart of one ancient route which connected the Khuzestan plain to the central plateau of Iran by Isfahan.
As Izeh has two different climates; cold in the north and warm in the south; and because of the shortage of agricultural fields also based on it's suitable environment for animal husbandry, one special immigrant group that known as Bakhtiari Tribes, has formed it's main dwellings since early times.

According to the report of seismography center affiliated to the Tehran University Geophysics Institute, tremor occurred at 20:53 local time (17:23 GMT) and its epicenter was at 32.02 altitude and 49.73 degrees longitude.

Tehran, March 30, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 3.5 degrees on the Richter scale shook the city of Izeh and its vicinity, in the southwestern province of Khuzestan at 03:45 hours local time Tuesday (23:15 GMT Monday).
The seismological base of Geophysics Institute of Tehran University registered the epicenter of the quake somewhere in the vicinity of the city of Izeh.
Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.

Even tourists to Izeh city have voiced their concern about the chaotic situation of these 3000-year-old bas-reliefs.
In a talk with CHN, Siavash Saberi head of the office for safeguarding movable historical properties lamented the current situation of 3000-year-old bas-reliefs of Izeh and said that the best measure for rescuing these historical evidence would be to document them.

ISMN recorded a series of earthquakes that occurred in January 6, 2004, which struck southwest of Izeh city in the north of Khuzestan province in south west of Iran.
Izeh, Baq- Malek and Masjedsoleyman Accelerographs stations recorded these earthquakes.
The peak ground acceleration are recorded as 37.45, 31.74 and 40.87 cm/s/s on L, V and T component in Izeh Station respectively.

The reservoir of the Karun-3 dam in Khuzestan was recently filled and a large amount of the cultural heritage of ancient Izeh was submerged under mud forever.
