Paul Tatum (American joint owner of Radisson-Slavanskaya Hotel in the Moscow; shot 11 times in the head and neck (his attacker knew he was wearing a bulletproof vest) and killed in a sensational shooting in a Moscow Metro station in November 1996, for refusing to pay "krysha" and be squeezed out by a silent partner.
Tatum was surrounded by his own bodyguards when attacked, however they made no attempt to save him and allowed his attacker to escape unharmed.

It was the second Metro line to open, with the oldest stations dating to 1938.
The best-known stations on the line are probably Ploschad Revolyutsii with its 72 sculptural groups by M.G. Manizer and Elektrozavodskaya, which is lit by 318 incandescent lights.
Another notable station is Park Pobedy, which at 97 metres beneath the surface is Moscow´s and one of the world´s deepest Metro stations and contains the longest escalators.

The train had left the Paveletskaya station, on the metro system's green line, and was travelling south from the city centre to the Avtozavodskaya station through a tunnel when the blast occurred.
The Moscow metro has been attacked by bombers at least three times before in its history: in 1977 a bomb planted by Armenian separatists killed seven and injured 32 between Izmailovskaya and Pervomaiskaya stations.

The dark-blue line of the Moscow metro is one of the older lines, which means some of the downtown stations have the spectacular and grandiose design that the Moscow metro is known for.
It also goes above ground closer to the end of the line, and there always seems to be graffiti along train rights-of-way.

A nice lively place to discover authentic russian folk music is the entrance of Izmailovski Park -- just outside Izmailovskaya metro station (blue line) on saturdays and sundays between 6 and 8 pm -- It's the gathering of all the dedushkas and babushkas in Moscow.
Right next to the forest exit of Izmailovskaya metro station, you'll find circles of dressed up babushkas, clapping, laughing and commenting the spectacle they're watching.
In the middle of them, an accordeonist plays a background tempo and two or three pushy Babushkas dance and sing Chastushkas.
