Izrael Poznański - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The role of Poznanski and other investors, typical representatives of early industrialization, has often been distorted, not only by partisan historians of the foregone socialist period (also influenced by subtle antisemitism).
The sites linked to Poznanski's memory are among the most prominent ones of the city : The huge factory buildings in Ogrodowa street; the nearby Poznanski Palace, today a museum (including an exposition about Artur Rubinstein, another 'Lodschermensch'); and Poznanski's marble tomb on the Jewish cemetery, the biggest Israelite graveyard in Europe.
The mausoleum of Izrael and Eleonora Hertz Poznanski is probably the largest Jewish tombstone in the world.

 globeandmail.com : Poland's creative powerhouse
Lavish architectural detail is commonplace in Lodz factories, which were built close to the extravagant mansions of egotistical manufacturers, anointing both with flourishes of the Modernist, medieval or Renaissance eras.
Some even conquered the boundaries of taste: When architects asked Izrael Poznanski which style his residence should represent, he responded indignantly: "What do you mean 'which style?' I can afford them all."
Poznanski was not alone in his genre-defying choices, and the 4.5 kilometres of Piotrkowska Street, the town's central promenade and Europe's longest commercial thoroughfare, embraces almost the entire history of European architecture.
